Delta Plane Crashes and Flips on Its Roof at Toronto Airport; Passengers Crawl Out from Wreck

In a harrowing incident at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, a Delta Airlines plane crashed upon landing, flipping onto its roof. Passengers were seen crawling out of the wreckage as emergency teams rushed to the scene. The aircraft, arriving from Minneapolis, had 76 passengers and four crew members onboard at the time of the accident, according to a statement by Delta Airlines.

Local media reported that multiple people sustained injuries in the crash. Peel Regional Paramedic Services confirmed that 18 individuals, including a child, were injured, with three reportedly in critical condition. CBC Television noted that the plane flipped during landing, exacerbating the severity of the incident.

The airport acknowledged the event in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for.” Local police and paramedics quickly established a staging area off the runway while they continued their investigation into the cause of the crash.

Following the accident, Toronto Pearson temporarily shut down all arrivals and departures. However, operations have since resumed, according to a report by CTV News.

Delta Airlines issued a statement addressing the situation: “Delta is working to connect with customers traveling from, to, or through YYZ who should also monitor the status of their flight via the Fly Delta app.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that there was a ground stop at Toronto Pearson Airport immediately following the crash, as reported by Reuters. Constable Sarah Patten of the Peel Regional Police in Ontario told Reuters, “There is a plane crash. However, we don’t know the circumstances surrounding it at this point.”

Patten added, “It is my understanding that most of the passengers are out and unharmed, but we’re still trying to make sure, so we’re still on the scene investigating.”

As authorities work to piece together what led to the crash, travelers are advised to stay updated on their flight statuses and remain vigilant for further updates regarding the ongoing investigation.
